QED OVERVIEW

Last Sunday together with Holly Revell and Jeremy Scott we launched QED session1. The first of a run of 6 fortnightly life-drawing classes.

Queer Erotic Drawing was put together to push the boundaries of Erotic art, Inviting artists, models and other medium based artists in fields such as poetry, or even a sexual craft for example rope bondage (session2 20th March) who all have an interest in developing their own work towards the erotic. During Session 1 we invited writer Jonathan Kemp to come down and read from his book "LONDON TRIPTYCH" (recent green carnation winner) and his future publication of erotic poetry. As the models were performing the last 15 min movement performance Jonathan read out some of his poems to add to the whole atmosphere of the scene unfolding in front of the artists. The movement poses are designed that you don't just concentrate on accurately portraying a photographic image of what you are watching (as both models are slowly moving staying no longer than 2 to 3 minuets in each position) but to capture the emotion and energy you are viewing and draw these personal feelings on paper.
At Queer Erotic Drawing we have provided a space that has no boundaries unlike a typical life-drawing class. Here the models are allowed to let loose and interact in subtly erotic posses building up to a more sexual connection. Both Toby the other model and I felt exhausted by the end of the class but the feelings of liberation, of being able to cut loose from the boundaries of a conventional art class was intense. Unlike a sex show in a club were people are there to get some kind of titillation my feelings after were nothing like that of any of the shows i have performed before.
The class is set in the amazing surroundings of the Master U sex shop in Vauxhall. Its black open brick walls, industrial fixings and film set lighting really gives a feel to the whole experience where i think if it were to be in a classroom would be lost on so many levels. Holly Revell is on hand all through out the class for anyone who would like some drawing advice and after the 20 min warm up she does of different drawing exercises which even the more experienced artist joined in on, saying it was great to have a quick reminder as it had been a while since some of the people there had attended a life drawing class. The class was booked out before the doors opened and we had to turn people away on the day. We have now implemented a pre-booking online system to make sure that you don't miss out.

For those that came to session1 said that it was an experience both thought provoking and emotionally overwhelming. The chance to be able to draw the erotic doesn't come very often and to be in a room of people who respect the situation and want to push their drawing into a realm of erotica this was perfect.

Here is a brief look at what went one but obviously we can show everything as its something that you have to experience fully yourself.

PLAYING WITH MY ALTER EGO!

Having spent a day in the studio and then a whole day in Brighton running around naked on the beach and random staircases i got back to Laytonstone again for another studio shoot with HOLLY REVELL. Realising what had worked and didn't work on the last two shoot, this time we had a plan. Tho things never seem to go as planned. To warm us both up we started with some Light painting which if you have read other posts on here i am in ore of and for us its like photographic stretching.
this was the out come of the first shot
Holly has used a lot of movement and very successfully before in her work. Tho this outer body ghostly image started both us thinking. With the ways the hands and feet blend could we combine 2 of myself in an interaction in the same shot but in different posses. My dirty mind runs away with me some times i just cant help myself and with very little encouragement from Holly just a cheeky giggle and a wink which if you ever say cheers over a drink the facial contortions that follow (which i believe after great study to be a wink) is horrifyingly funny.
This is the point on the shoot when control was lost.
What your about to see is what happens when you put a porn star and a fag hag photographer (a title Holly is forever calling herself all tho i do feel that she is the catalyst for a lot of gay men not a follower). together in a dark room both with heads full of... words surpass me for what must have been going through our heads.




The last image really puts a new slant on SELF FISTING. We never did get around to finishing what we had planned to do but then thats life.

Up and coming Artist HOLLY REVELL has joined forces with The HOT AUGUST FRINGE @RVT and will be there this Friday 30th July doing her LIGHT PAINTING. Having spent a few day in the studio with her doing this i insist that this is something that you will not want to miss. She will have a darkroom style booth up stairs at the RVT where in groups or on your own you can get a light painting picture shot by her of you for a donation of just £5.
I strongly recommend that you go the full nine yards and get undressed for her, its been one of the most liberating naked experiences i have had.
With a long exposure set on the camera she draws light over you with a simple torch. The vulnerability and liberation that you fell as she focuses in onto different areas of your body lighting it for the camera is immense. I came out of this shoot feeling totally connected with Holly something that a quick snap has never made me feel. My connection with the photographer has always been over time and a different number of shoots. But to have one picture taken that takes about 2 to 3 minutes to produce that bonds you so close to the producer is amazing.

Spent a day with the amazing Artist HOLLY REVELL last thursday. Was very liberating to run around Brighton with nothing on i recommend it to anyone!!!!
